Weddings and Baptisms at St. Luke's

Weddings and Baptisms are both considered to be sacraments of the church, and as such, we at St. Luke's take them very seriously.  While they are usually reserved for active members of the community, exceptions can be made.  Call the office and arrange for a meeting if you wish to be married at St. Luke's, or if you or a member of your family wishes to be baptised.

Next to the Roman Church, Anglicans are the only denomination which hold marriage to be a sacrament.  Because we hold a very high view of marriage, plans and preparations for this sacramental act begin at least six months in advance of the proposed date. You must meet with the parish priest six months before the proposed date of marriage for an initial interview.  Many factors will be taken into consideration, such as:

  • are you a practising member of St. Luke's?
  • are your parents practising members of St. Luke's?
  • if not, why do you want to get married here at St. Luke's?
  • if not, why do you want a church wedding and not a civil wedding?

Once a date has been set with the priest, you will receive a wedding package containing all the information you will need to plan and prepare for your special day.

One of the requirements of the Diocese of Huron, of which St. Luke's is a parish, is that all couples married in a parish church must participate in a marriage preparation course.  This information will be given to you at the first meeting.  You must give the certificate received at this course to the priest before the wedding date in order for the wedding to proceed.
